The Energy Economics group at the Faculty of Business and Economics is hiring a student assistant for support in ongoing model development and model based studies.
The position starts in January 2022 and is envisioned as long term position (1+ years) if financing can be secured.

The Team
The Chair of Energy Economics deals with applied questions of the current energy debate. One main focus is the analysis of the future Swiss and European electricity market. Methodologically, we focus on applied microeconomics, in particular empirical research using numerical market models.

Your position

The activity includes support for model and data-based research on electricity markets.

Examples of these activities are:

Programming in Python / Julia to prepare data for models
Research of data sources and literature
Excel or Python-based preparation and visualization of market model results
Support in proofreading and layout of reports

Your profile

You are a student at the University of Basel, have very good data handling skills (ideally with Excel and at least one of the programming languages Python, Julia or R) and an interest in energy economic topics. You are willing to work independently, have very good English language skills.

The applicant should demonstrate programming skills in Python (or a similar language), with the following features considered desirable:

Data checks, cleaning, and merging (e.g., in pandas package)
Data summary and visualization (e.g., in pandas, plotly or seaborn packages)
Software collaboration (e.g., Jupyter notebooks, GitHub)
Basic Microsoft Excel skills
